April 14th our paint mare Bubbles foaled a sorrel overo filly, on the morning of the 15th we came out to find the mare dead and were faced with a very hungry orphan foal. We put the word out and within the hour got a call from Dr Stole at UCD saying they knew of someone in Lodi that had lost a foal. A few phone calls later we were on our way to Lodi with baby in tow. “Maui” was glad to see this little paint filly in need of a mom. Within ten minutes the bond was complete and not long after that “Maui” and her new daughter were on their way home. Maui continues to be a great mom and neighs at the other foals when they come through the barn. I believe she would take on another.
